LIVING WITHOUT FEAR
Is it possible to live these days without fear? In the midst of individual, community and world problems, and with situations that make for an uncertain future, where can we find real peace? Must life be filled with sorrow and fear without hope for better days ahead? Almighty God has given to us the answer in His promises in the Bible. As we trust what God has said we will be delivered from fear. However, in order for us to apply the promises in the Bible, we must have a right relationship with almighty God. Faith in what the Lord God has said to us in His written Word, the Bible, is essential to living with the peace and joy that comes from placing our trust in God’s plan for our lives.
First, let us see the promises that God has given to us in the Bible concerning living without fear.
In the Bible book of Isaiah chapter 41, verse 10 we read: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
When we live for the Lord, according to what God has directed us to do in the Bible, these promises will be evidenced in our lives.
Isaiah chapter 40, verses 28-31: “Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings of eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.”
I read or quote these promises every morning. The Lord has given me strength to live daily as His follower, and He provides for me in wonderful ways.
Psalm 118, verse 6: “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear.”
When we are living according to the instructions in the Bible, God is with us right by our side. Realizing the greatness and power of almighty God, we will not fear. There are times when we need correction or instruction, but we will not fear when we are living in the center of the will of God. The Lord will give us victory.
Psalm 27, verse 1: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
The LORD cleansed me of all of my sins when I accepted Messiah Jesus as my Savior. When I fail Him in anything, the Spirit of God convicts me of that failure and I ask God to forgive me and cleanse me with the atonement provided by Messiah Jesus. How good it is to live with a clean heart and conscience! Living this way, pleasing to God, enables Bible believers to know God will care for us and will deliver us from things or situations that would cause fear.
In the Bible book of John chapter 14, verse 27, Messiah Jesus said: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Messiah Jesus is One in the Godhead and so speaks as the LORD speaks. When Messiah Jesus says He will give us peace in place of fear, He will! How wonderful it is to have the peace of God in this world in which we live today.
In Hebrews chapter 13, verses 5-6 we have God’s promise: “…For he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear….”
What a great promise for us. As we live for the Lord as Bible believers, God will never leave us or forsake us; He is our help in every situation. Because of this promise and the reality of it, we will not fear! Do you have this assurance?
Psalm 34, verse 4: “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”
Bible believers can put their confidence in this promise of God to take care of our fears. God hears us when we pray to Him, and He will answer our prayers for His glory and our good. No matter what the fear, the Lord will deliver us from them all! Be certain to take everything to God in prayer; He will deliver us as we trust Him and His promises.
The book of I John chapter 4, verses 14-16, 18: “And we have seen and do testify that the Father [God] sent the Son [Messiah Jesus] to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God…God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God. And God in him…there is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear, because fear hath torment.”
God loves Bible believers as sons and daughters. We must truly love the Lord, and put Him first in our lives, for He has showed such great love to us. We cannot imagine what it will be like in Heaven for eternity, living in the actual presence of God and Messiah Jesus with perfect love. We have this love from God now, and knowing and living this truth will cast out all fears.
There is a condition upon which we can enjoy these promises from God. We must have a right relationship to God. In the Bible book of Isaiah chapter 59, verses 1-2 we read: “Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” In order for us to enjoy the promises of Almighty God, we must have our sins forgiven by Him according to His plan for us.
God provided the blood of atonement for us to be forgiven of our sins.
In Romans chapter 5, verses 8 and 11; in Colossians chapter 1, verse 14; and in John chapter 3, verse 16 we read: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Messiah died for us…And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Messiah, by whom we have now received the atonement…In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of our sins.” “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Every person has sinned. We all need God’s forgiveness and cleansing. Messiah Jesus took the punishment due us for our sins when He died on the tree to provide the blood of atonement for us to be forgiven. When you know this is all true, and you want God’s cleansing of your sins so you can begin a new life in the will of almighty God, speak to the Lord. Say to Him: “Almighty God, I know I have sinned and I want your forgiveness. I believe Messiah Jesus died and was raised from the grave to provide the blood of atonement to cleanse me of all sin. Cleanse me now. Almighty God, forgive me of all my sins and make me clean. I want to live for you as a Bible believer. Show me how to live and to be what you want me to be. I ask this in the Name of Messiah Jesus, my Savior. Thank you for cleansing me of my sins. Guide me now to live pleasing to you, my Heavenly Father. Amen.”
